The Larksmen, an indie / garage rock band hailing from the
Los Angeles area are pleased to announce the release of their new independently
produced debut
album on the Skylark Records imprint. The self-titled LP's emblematic ten original
group-compositions are fraternally complimented by two tracks featuring Sean
Bonniwell, founder of the 60's garage rock group The Music Machine. Although
the Larksmen are considered primarily as a garage rock outfit, listeners will
notice a vast array of influences ranging from 60's British Invasion, surf
and garage punk to blues, lounge and jazz with a little avant garde thrown
in for good measure. A reviewer from renown zine Maximum Rock'n'Roll said
of the groups style and sound: "The album is pretty cool by the way but
I would say you guys definitely can't be pigeonholed into one easy category...",
a fact in which the band proudly wears. As group founder Eric John Leslie puts
it: "We're just an obnoxious rock and roll band if you ask me". Regardless,
the overall feel of the album is consistent enough to be identifiable as the
bands distinct sound.
After forming some time ago under another alias, the quartet's venerable personnel
evolved to become The Larksmen: Eric John Leslie - vocals & lead guitar;
Scott Roberts - bass; D. Poole - organ / rhythm guitar, and Lenny Montoya
(ex-The Leaving Trains) - drums. Though they have a difficult time getting
along with
one another (for whatever reasons), they were for the most part successful
in sticking it out for the albums recording sessions. Regardless, the album’s
completion includes choice cuts such as "It's A Beautiful Day", "Nothing Girl"
and "Burn Like A Boy" featuring Bonniwell on vocals and guitar.
Said Sean Bonniwell of the album’s recording session: "The Larksmen and yours
truly 'guest artist' session went quite well. Given the unknowns associated
with the likes of such an endeavor, the best that one could hope for is to
make a tasteful noise. I dare say we got more, coming to the table tasting
fully classic garage."
